Las Vegas, Nev. - The Long Island University women’s tennis team turned in another strong performance on its spring break trip to Las Vegas, defeating Oral Roberts, 5-2. The Blackbirds once again swept the doubles point to take an early lead and won four singles matches to earn the team victory and improve to 4-2.

Aleksandra Pavlovic gutted out a 9-7 win at the No. 1 spot over the Golden Eagles’ pairing of Lina Semenova# and Tayler Pippen. At No. 2, another senior-freshman pair,
H’Ann Johnson and
Taysha Blessington handed Kristin Gray and Ana Costa an 8-5 loss. In the third spot, seniors
Dara Lahens and
Stephanie Elie went down to the wire with Ekaterina Kondrashova and Tori Dollar, taking away a 9-8 (7-5) victory.
After dropping the first set in singles action, 4-6, Babic regrouped at the No. 1 spot with 6-0 and 6-2 set victories to down Semenova. At No. 2, freshman
Linn Sjogren needed a tiebreaker to win the first set 7-6 (7-5) before setting down Gray 6-1 to win the match. Pavlovic scored a 6-4; 5-7; 12-10 win over Pippen at No. 3 and Johnson wrapped things up with a 6-2; 6-3 win over Dollar at No. 6.
The Blackbirds will return to action on Wednesday, March 24, hosting Sacred Heart at the USTA Tennis Center at 3:00 p.m.
