Mejia Shines at ASA National Championship
Bianca Mejia earned all-tournament honors at the ASA U-23 Fast Pitch tournament

Bianca Mejia of the Long Island University softball team helped her team to a first-place finish at the 2009 Amateur Softball Association of America 23-Under Fast Pitch National Championship. Mejia helped the Southern California Hurricanes to a 5-1 record at the tournament held from July 16-19 in Sterling, Va.
In addition to leading her team to a first-place finish, Mejia claimed the tournament's batting title and home run title on her way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.
In her first season at LIU, Mejia was named All-Northeast Conference First Team and earned East Second Team All-America honors. She hit .404 and led the team in hits (67), runs (40), RBIs (34) and doubles (14). She also broke the single-season school record with 14 home runs. Mejia ranked 15th nationally with a .042 strikeout percentage after going down on strikes just seven times. She ranked 35th in the NCAA with a .741 slugging percentage.
