Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Long Island University women's soccer team claimed the final spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament by virtue of results in the season's final weekend. The Blackbirds (9-7-1) will be the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded Central Connecticut State on Friday, Nov. 6, in New Britain, Conn.

LIU, which went unbeaten in its final four games of the regular season (3-0-1), was able to earn the final spot by virtue of losses by Robert Morris and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday. The Blackbirds qualified with a 5-4-1 record and 16 points in NEC play. LIU has qualified for five straight conference tournaments, including a championship run in 2006.

The Blackbirds will be looking for their first league crown since 2006 and begin their quest against the foe that knocked them out of last season's NEC Tournament. The Blue Devils defeated top-seeded LIU in the 2008 NEC Championship, 1-0. The squads played to a 1-1 tie at CCSU during the 2009 regular season.
