Hamden, Conn. - Long Island University freshman
Rogers Kipruto won the men’s individual title at the Northeast Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Quinnipiac. The first-year Blackbird crossed the finish line first with a time of 25:55.9 in the eight-kilometer course. Senior
Selina Munoz was Long Island’s top female finisher, placing eighth in the five-kilometer race at 18:51.7. As a team, the Blackbird men placed eighth and the women finished ninth.
As a result of his stellar performance, Kipruto was named NEC Outstanding Performer and NEC Freshman of the Year. Kirpruto, the first Long Island harrier to win an individual NEC title, was joined on the NEC All-Conference Team by
Jason Lakritz, who placed 10th at 26:50.2. Senior
Dan Renahan finished 50th with a time of 28:10.8. Rounding out the Blackbird men’s performers that contributed to the team finish were senior
Julius Mutekanga and freshman
William Werner, who finished 70th (28:43.7) and 91st (30:36.1), respectively.
In women’s action, Munoz’s seventh-place finish garnered a spot on the all-conference team. Sophomore
Monica Akello placed 43rd at 20:22.3 and junior
Robin Renahan turned in a time of 21:06.9 to finish 58th. At 21:34.2, junior
Desiree Conley placed 67th and sophomore Nicolle Franklin ran to a time of 21:53.2, placing 73rd.
Quinnipiac captured its fifth straight women’s team win, while Central Connecticut State won its first men’s title. For full results, click the links above.
